With SRM 5.0 VMware introduced a new replication option called vSphere Replication. vSphere Replication is an alternative to Array Based Replication. vSphere Replication uses the virtualization layer for replication.
In an earlier article I described the differences between vSphere Replication and Array Based Replication. Although vSphere Replication is a interesting alternative, it didn’t support the reprotect and failback in SRM 5.0. With the introduction SRM 5.1 things changed however, as published in the SRM 5.1 release notes:
- SRM 5.1 supports reprotect and failback with vSphere Replication. Previously, you could only perform reprotect and failback on array-based protection groups. In SRM 5.1 you can perform reprotect and failback on vSphere Replication protection groups.
A nice addition I would say!

There is a bug in srm 5.1 as it doesn’t support automatic failback. Vmware advised a patch scheduled to be released earlier this month to fix the flaw.
Any dates for the release …pls?
