One of the VCAPs that was still on my list, is the VMware Certified Advanced Professional – Network Virtualization Deployment (VCAP-NV) exam.
This exam tests your skills and abilities in implementing a VMware NSX 6.2 solution, including deployment, administration, optimization, and troubleshooting.
I sat this exam last week, and yes…despite NSX 6.2 will be End Of Life on August 20 this year, it’s still the version where the exam is based on. Just like the other VCAP deployment exams, this exam is a lab based exam in which you’re dealing with a live NSX environment. The lab experience is kind of the same as the VMware Hands-On Labs, so getting familiar with the Hands-On Labs interface will give you some advantage here. Because for Network Virtualization no design exam is available, you will also get VCIX-NV after you passed the deployment exam.
As always read through the blueprint for the exam, to get a feeling what will be asked in the exam. With a lab based exam it’s of course essential to get hands-on experience with NSX, either in your own environment or in a lab environment. The VMware Hands-On Labs can also help you here, especially if you don’t have access to a test environment that you can use to test and configure the different features.
There are numerous websites on the internet that provide study resources for the VCAP-NV exam. The one that found particularly useful is published on thecloudxpert.net. This study guide includes step-by-step guides for almost all the objectives that are mentioned in the blueprint, so give it a try!
The exam and the result
After all your preparations, it’s time for the exam! This exam lasts 205 minutes and includes 23 questions. One thing is for sure, you will need those 205 minutes to complete all the assignments. One tip here is: If you don’t know the answer to a question (or you don’t how to configure what is asked), just continue and don’t waste all your time. It’s better to score points on things you do know, than spoiling your time on things you don’t know. After you’ve finished the exam you have to wait around an hour for the exam score, it will be sent to your e-mail box. I scored 342, which is more than the required 300…so that’s a pass!
